Explore the oldest zoo called the Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens built in 1892 that has been named after the Wodeyar ruler Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. More popular as Mysore Zoo, it houses more than 168 species of wild creatures brought from around 25 countries.
Established with the stern efforts of German Horticulturist G.H Krumbiegel, the zoo is spread over an area of 157 acres of land and accommodates rare animals like Guanaco, Secretary Bird, Polar Bear, White Elephant, American Bison, California Sea lions and Kangaroo.
Attracting more than 2 million tourists every year, the zoo houses mammals like Asiatic Elephants, Hippopotamus, African White Rhino, African Black Rhino, Gaur and reptiles like King Cobra, Iguana, Indian Cobra and 7 types of Crocodiles. Leopards, Cheetahs, Lions and Tigers are part of the zoo that is known for the first section of delivery done on an elephant.
Mysore Zoo also houses winged creatures like Silver and Gold Peasant, Hornbill, White and Blue Peacocks, Spoonbill, Ostrich, Emu, Vultures, Eagle, Sarus Cranes, Flamingos and Painted Stork.
